Simple tile matching game made with Godot 4.3.  Even though it uses Mahjong tiles this is not a Mahjong game.

I am not sure of the original name.  I played a web version of this almost 10 years ago but it was in another language and I believe it used flags instead of Mahjong tiles.  I recreated it using my foggy memories so it may not be exact.  If anybody knows the official name I've love to learn it.

@Tolerable came through in the comments on this game with the name.
It is called  Four Rivers or Shisen-Sho -  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shisen-Sho

The rules are simple.  Connect and clear all the tiles.  The tiles can only be connect by a line with two or fewer corners.  I repeat, it will not be a valid connection if it has any more than two 90 degree turns.

After 60 seconds of no matches it shakes a pair of tiles as a hint.  If a board runs out of valid connections it shuffles itself.  Hint time can be customized or disabled using a command-line flag.  Add '-- --hint=#' in the command line or as part of a windows shortcut; where # is the number of seconds you would like it to wait.  Setting it to 0 will disable hints entirely.

I used the tiles made by Blueeyesrat

I made the icon/cover image myself in Inkscape.

The party horn and confetti I made myself using Aseprite

If you haven't already found this, I think the game you are looking for is Shisen-Sho, also sometimes known as "Four Rivers".  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shisen-Sho

Most implementations I have seen don't mask the covered tiles, which in theory allows for better strategy in choosing matches to avoid deadlock - realistically as I play it though I usually pick whatever match I see first anyway. :)

That is it! I had not found it yet. I stopped looking not long after posting this game. Thank you!

The wiki doesn’t say anything about shuffling when out of moves, either. Its just a game over. I could make a classic play mode, I guess. If I ever come back to this game it will be on my list.

It is so weird that there are multiple games of this type made with adult content.

fun!! although challenging (and frustrating at times) i was satisfied when i finished it :) sorry i dont know what game this is based on, but will share in case someone else does :D

Thanks!  I am always happy when someone plays one of my games.

It is very much a zen-mode, zone out and play, sort of game for me so I don't experience the frustration but I can definitely see why it would be frustrating for people.

I suppose I could halve the number of tiles - either just have 2 duplicates for all 48 tiles or keep 4 duplicates but only 24 different tiles.  I think the latter would probably be best.  One day I will return to this and make a title screen with different difficulties.
